I started reading John W. Robbins’ Not Reformed At All last night. (It’s a response to Doug Wilson’s Reformed is Not Enough.)
I Wish I hadn’t. Excruciating. Infantile. Embarrassing.

My old pastor is writing a book in defense of Norman Shepherd, who was his mentor. It should rock the reformed world. As you know, a little rockin’ can be a good thing. My prayer is that it doesn’t cause a denominational rift. I hope everyone involved can be mature about it, and realize that we all still have a ways to go. However, recent controversies in the reformed world have shown that maybe we aren’t very mature. For anyone interested, I agree with the position that sees the covenant of works, so called, as being fulfilled more by faith, than the westminster confessions teach. However like most, I am open to rebuke, correction, straightening, grooming, and the like.
Hi DLW, who was your old pastor?
I don’t agree with Shepherd’s theology. However, I object to Robbins’ ranting. He makes some good points but they are lost in a sea of snidey asides. It does no good in the long run. I will finish the book, but not with any pleasure.
I didn’t think the book was that bad, though the Orthodox-orthodontist aside was bizarre.
John,
Now that you mention it, that was a funny moment – in a surreal, what-is-this-guy-on kind of way.
Infantile is a good description of what I read. Admittedly, I only read about 7-8 pages but I read enough to know that I would never be able to take this book seriously. The anonymous poem ridiculing Doug Wilson and the ludicrous “Antichristian” label given to Peter Leithart made me close the book.
